Wrought Iron Door Restoration
This door below came off of a high profile historical Manhattan building in midtown. The project consisted of two entranceway doors, two side panels and four handrails. Below are some pictures of how the doors looked before we commenced the start of the project.

Side Panel
Once the project commenced the doors were picked up and photographed for documentation purposes. We inserted the entranceway doors and side panels into a hot caustic acid bath to strip all the paint and surface rust. Below are some pictures of the doors how they looked after decades of paint were removed!

Before and After Pictures of Wrought Iron Side Panels
After the doors were stripped we sanded the doors down to where their were no imperfections and all the holes were weld filled along with other areas of interest. On the main door we did some major fabrications which included replacing areas of the door with new steel and inserting closer mechanism into the door to where it looks like a factory fit.

After all the fabrications and welds were performed we proceeded grinding and fiberglassing the entire door to remove any imperfections that woudl have noticed in the final paint. Each door was first coated with an rust inhibited epoxy primer. After the primer we proceeded with a urethane high build primer which we were able to sand to a perfection.

The door were painted with five coats of polyurethane semi flat charcoal black paint which was chosen by the famous colorist Donald Kaufman. The finished product is below before installation. Please note that with the help of Nick Mar Renovations we created feet that were installed onto the bottom of the doors to help with the prepping and painting.
